In different parts of the world, there have been different historical events, buildings or constructions that are still spoken about till now. Many of these events are present celebrated to honor the memory and to keep passing it on from one generation to another. Some historical artifacts are kept in museums or can be seen in old Town that have been able to preserve this historical materials.
However, some of these historical artifacts are sometimes forgotten due to the fact that those that witnesses its occurrence or it creation are no more. Sometimes these old forgotten historical artifacts are later discovered by present habitants of the area or by researchers whose goal is to keep finding different things of the past to be able to understand past event or give new insight on the existence of past events and practices.
A shocking discovery due to the low levels of water was made the other day in a village in Eastern China. A Buddha statue of approximately 600 years old which was almost perfectly preserved was what the people discovered.
Hongmen Reservoir which is in the Nancheng County of the Jiangsu Province is the place where this statue was found. A hydropower gate is under renovation in this particular place and this is what made the level of the water to drop by almost 10 meters (33 feet).
Immediately the news was spread by the villagers of the place, researchers came to confirm if the news was actually true. It was confirmed by the researchers that the statue is about 12.4 feet tall (3.8meters) and it is as old as the 14th century. The Buddha was able to maintain its original form and shape because it was able to naturally avoid weathering throughout these long years. By the way Chairman Mao between the years of 1966 and 1976 had launched a program to remove any and every traditional components from the culture of the Chinese.
The director of Research Institute of Archaeology of the Jiangxi province said that to begin with, a study of the statue tells that maybe it was built during the times of the Ming Yuan Dynasty. Possibly, many more discoveries can be made in that area. Huang Keping who is an eighty-two-year-old blacksmith is one the occupants of the village and this explains that he was alive before the time of the building of the reservoir and he can remember how the place looked like before man-made changes were visible. He actually remembered that in front of the Buddha statue there was a small temple. He also said that he went to the temple in 1952 and that is was the first time he saw the Buddha statue. He went on to say that he recalls that when he first saw it the statue was gilded.
Researchers keep hoping that with time as they move around researching down into history lane, it will be possible for them to make more of these discoveries which are really historic.
