In season 5 of SVU, Neal’s first appearance was as the character Casey Novak, an Assistant District Attorney. The American actress played Novak towards the finale of season 9, when the character left the series following censorship from New York State Bar. Diane Neal was wedded to Marcus Fitzgerald in 2005, but their relationship lasted until 2014 when the two got divorced. On February 6th, 2018, the American actress made it known that she was running for the U.S. House of Representatives of New York in an independent party. She managed to earn 1% of the total votes.
